Electrical testing is often overlooked but it is a statutory obligation by companies to ensure that a periodic testing of fixed wiring and emergency lighting is done very 5 years.

All electrical installations deteriorate with age and through use so should be inspected and tested at regular intervals to check that they are in a satisfactory condition for continued use. These types of safety checks are commonly referred to as ‘periodic inspection and testing’.

A periodic inspection of electrical circuits will:

  • Reveal if any of your electrical circuits or equipment is overloaded.
  • Find any potential electric shock risks and fire hazards.
  • Identify any defective electrical work.
  • Highlight any lack of earthing or bonding.

From an employers’ point of view, and this includes the self-employed, there is a duty of care under the Health & Safety At Work Act 1974 upon the employer and employee to ensure that work places are safe and this includes appliances that are owned, supplied by an outsourcer or hired. The Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999, the Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 and the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 all state similar legal requirements and that all electrical wiring and appliances should be regularly maintained and tested ensuring that they are fit for purpose.

At Next Systems Ltd, we’ve invested in new state-of-the-art electrical testing equipment to meet today’s highest of standards. Our fully qualified engineers will conduct a periodic inspection for you that will highlight any problems and potential issues before they pose a risk. We are also happy to carry out any necessary rectification work that we recommend, and you can rest assured that all work will be carried out to recognised industry standards and best practice.
